Giveaway: Free User Experience Books from Rosenfeld Media
* Update: Commenting is now closed and winners will be selected shortly. *
The success of a site depends on the quality of experience they provide to their users. As the competition for the user’s attention increases, you, as a designer, have a short window of opportunity to get them hooked before they hit the “back” button and search for another alternative. This is where the field of User Experience (UX) evolved from, out of a necessity to keep your existing audience, and to encourage new users to come and stay a while.
Rosenfeld Media helps us do just that by offering succinct, practical, and useful books on the topic of User Experience. Rosenfeld Media focuses on information that’s real – that’s doable - instead of getting caught up in fruitless arguments on terminologies and theory that have no practical application.
I first encountered Louis Rosenfeld, founder of Rosenfeld Media, through an article I wrote a while ago on User Experience websites. You might have heard of him from (what he fondly calls) “the Polar Bear Book” (Information Architecture for the World Wide Web published by O’Reilly). I’d heard of Rosenfeld Media before because of a book I really wanted to read but just never got around to buying - Web Form Design by LukeW.
Anyways – to make a long story short – after I got to talk to Louis, I knew I just had to get a copy of Web Form Design. After reading it, I knew I had to try and get some of you guys a copy.
To make a short story, shorter – I emailed Louis to see if he’d be willing to give away a few copies to you folks, and he was more than happy to do so. Without further ado…
The contest rules
We’re giving away 10 copies of either:
- Web Form Design by Luke Wroblewski
- Mental Models by Indi Young
They come in paperpack and screen-optimized digital (PDF) versions.
All you have to do is leave a comment with the following information:
Which book do you want?
You have to leave a valid email address in the comment form input field so that I can send you an email notifying you if you’ve won. Winners will be randomly selected and notified via a follow-up post as well as by email. There will be 10 winners selected and you’ll recieve both paperback and PDF versions – free of charge.
It’s over when?
The contest ends on Monday, December 8, 2008, after which commenting on this contest post will be out of business. If you’ve won, you’ll see your name in the post announcing the winners and will receive a private email from me. Subscribe to the Six Revisions RSS feed so that you get notified when the results have been posted.
Also check out…
Rosenfeld Media also publishes useful webinars, and there’s one coming up soon. On December 11 (at 1:00-2:00PM EST), 2008 – Indi Young author of “Mental Models” and co-founder of Adaptive Path will be hosting a webinar. Check out the details of the webinars on their site to learn more about it.
Last but not least… a discount code!
If you can’t wait to get a hold of the books, you can use the discount code SIXREVISIONS to receive a 10% discount on your next purchase from Rosenfeld Media.

Mental Models,thx!
It is really hard to integrate the user’s perspective into design. We had the interview and built the persona, but the gap between the problem found and the designing still exist because of the designer himself, the urgent schedule, the business strategy, the team work. We lack of a convinced approach to solve all the contradictions. Maybe the book is exactly what we need to learn about.
