Sorry Jeff, but this is a terrible article! I like Sixrevisions, however, I expect better research than wikipedia.

All this article does is feed the stereotype and add confusion to the market!

You shouldn't be mixing CGI "3D" with Stereo3D (S3D)! It was similar nonsense that helped kill 3D in the 50s, when, by the way, they primarily used polarisation as now (all be it slightly different)! Anaglyph was used in the 20s.

The article alludes to being about S3D, but is mostly about 2D CGI. What information there is about S3D is mostly wrong... you guys should be ashamed of yourselves!

I'll be reading your articles with much more sceptisim in the future.

You did not mention WebGL? That's where the future of 3D on the web is IMHO. Support for it is NATIVE in Firefox, Chrome, Safari (currently disabled by default) and in dev builds of Opera. It uses hardware accelation, HTML5 and JavaScript, there are several JS libraries available for it already, like A3 or J3D, or many others (see Wikipedia).

Flash = not cool

This article is very intriguing. I hadn't pondered upon the concept, nor did I know that 3D was introduced in 1952. Brilliantly written too.

Nice overview of 3D technology. I remember that, in my time as a VJ, Philips tried to launch no-glasses 3D screens (I believe they were called WOW screens) around 2005. Expensive, and not the right timing back then.

Anyway, I would like to note that, aside from the technological developments, the main question really should be: Why would you do it? Would you be able get your message across more effectively, to browse more intuitively, or have more effective meetings or conversations?

I would expext yes, but it's a little hard to get a grasp of all opportunities.

I think it will need some time until there will be a "3D"-wave in the web. 3D-websites look great, no question, but I really hate it if a website needs 15, 30 or more seconds to load. But nevertheless I think there will be a "3D"-wave in the future!
