You need to know your target audience, and what they're going to expect to see. If you're building a community for designers, then yes, beautiful fanciful illustrations are fantastic. If you're building a site to attract small business owners to develop their websites, illustrations may be perceived as unprofessional. YOU need to know YOUR audience. Always. Great article.
